Discover Land of Dragons: giant balloon structures

This Summer, 2024, the city of Guadalajara (Mexico) experienced a unique event: Tierra de Dragones, the giant structure construction workshop held on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of Globos Payaso and its sister company distributor in Mexico: Fábricas Selectas.

The workshop, with a theme inspired by Oriental Folklore and the current Year of the Dragon (according to the Chinese calendar), was held at the largest event venue in Mexico: Expo Guadalajara, with the participation of 100 attendees who formed teams led by six renowned artists of international stature, including one from Mexico and five from China:

Mural Team: led by Oswaldo Dorado (Globo Dorado).
Blue Dragon Team: led by Kun Lung Ho.
Red Dragon Team: led by Lily Tan.
Green Dragon Team: led by Ting Yu Wong.
Gold Dragon Team: led by Jie Sun.
Silver Dragon Team: led by JianPeng Zeng.

Starting on July 29, participants gathered at the venue and, together with their teams, got to work. The six teams began by building their structures: the Mural Team was in charge of creating a representation of the Great Wall of China that would stand out for its combination of colors, and the other teams, each one would make their own Dragon that would combine size and detail, competing against each other in the opinion of the guest judge and renowned balloon artist: Luiz Carlos da Silva "Cenario Balões," who would be in charge of selecting a winning team that met the requirements in terms of technique, creativity, aesthetics and design.

It is worth noting that one team was also focused exclusively on the construction of dresses inspired by beautiful traditional designs. These dresses were modeled and paraded on the workshop's Closing Night, where the winner of the dragon contest was also announced: Kun Lung Ho and the blue team for their stunning Blue Dragon.

The construction of the structures and the dresses took three days of meticulous work and attention to detail. All the participants managed to finish spectacular works that were finally assembled on July 31, ready for their exhibition, which opened to the public on August 1.

The exhibition received different national and international visitors, many of them accompanied by their families. These visitors appreciated an extremely spectacular setting that highlighted the meaning of Balloon Art and captured the talent of each participant.

Additionally, we are pleased to share that at the end of the exhibition, the Green Dragon could be donated to the DIF Zapopan, a Government Institution that provides social assistance to children and adolescents in vulnerable and socially disadvantaged conditions. Globos Payaso and Fábricas Selectas pride themselves on promoting and exalting education and talent within the Latex Balloon Industry and being committed to social and environmental responsibility.
